GAF is the collective effort of more than a dozen professional artists across dance, theatre, music, stage production and film. GAF premiered at Tasmania's Dark Mofo festival in 2026, opening the Night Mass event each night, brigning a playful and strange brigade of creatures to the streets of Hobart.
At the core of GAF is the infectiously creative and talented Harrison Ritchie-Jones. Born from his imagination, shaped by years of experimentation and more than a decade of experience, GAF is the latest in a long run of innovative projects.

My role as designer and creative collaborator gave me the opportunity to bring the full-face masks worn by the cast to life.
Working closely with Harrison, we defined the aesthetics of the goblins and arrived at a repeatable method for producing our masks.

Early ideas
-
We explored repurposing scuba gear, custom strapping and 3D printed components but found that the nature of the performance required a more flexible and durable approach.
Process
-
Scanning the heads of the cast became part of the process to ensure a proper fit to the individual.
Scans are cleaned up and sculpted over. Most masks went through several iterations before settling on a design.
Moulds prepared and 3D printed for slush casting with latex.

Layers of latex are added over several days.
